Living In Retirement

When you work for the government in the Philippines , retirement age is from 60-65 years old. An employee can have an optional retirement from ages sixty (60) to sixty-four (64) and when he reaches the age of 65 it will be mandatory retirement. Meaning he will have to stop working whether he likes it or not.

Mostly in the Philippines , a government employee can only enjoy the fruit of his labor when retires from work at the age of sixty. More often this will be the time they can build a big house or buy a brand new car since during their tenure as an employee they can’t afford the luxury because salary is not that huge especially if they are just an ordinary employee.

Child’s Play

As I was browsing the internet I came across with Child’s Play Talking Chucky Doll. The doll is 12” and is programmed to say “Hi, it’s Chucky”, “Sorry John, I gotta go, I have a date with a 6 year old boy.” Oh, I remember this movie in the late 80’s when I was still in my high school. I don’t like horror movies but I was able to see it because my friends in the dormitory where I was staying always watched it during the weekend. I can’t count how many times they’ve viewed the movie.

Taken For Granted

Painful experiences are sometimes taken for granted by most of us. But that should not be the case. Pleasant experiences make life enjoyable but painful experiences lead to growth. When we experience pain we are given the chance to learn something from it. Suffering points up an area in us where we have not yet grown, where we need to grow and be transformed and change.

Not to Worry

Have you heard about a person who said, “The neurotic is a person who worries about something that did not happen in the past. He’s not like us normal people who worry about things that will not happen in the future.” That is true. Many of us worry about things that did not happen yet. When we do that we stop living in the present. We miss the chance of being happy.

Being Blind

Have you ever think that you want to change the world? If we want to change the world I guess we should start first with ourselves. But how are we going to achieve that? We can achieve it through observation, and understanding. With no interference or judgment on our part because once we judge we cannot understand anymore. We become blind if we judge a person because we have put a label on him already. The moment we put label on him understanding has stopped.

The Cutting Edge

Part of being a mother is taking the responsibility of doing the dirty job in the kitchen. But I, being a “chef” by heart, love what I’m doing. You just give me the complete kitchen stuffs and it will be all set, and I will cook whatever you want me to cook for the family. And having the complete set of cutting utensils such as knives and shears would be very essential in our kitchen. I don’t like to use one knife to do all the stuff. I wanted to use the appropriate knives to their appropriate uses, such as a paring knife for paring, a chef knife to cut veggies and fillet knives in making fillets. It’s not being “maarte” or what. I’m just being true to myself of wanting the ideal kitchen that every mother wants to have.

Dusty Leaves

Leaves may be dusty, dirty and trash for some. We step on it, throw it in the trash can or burn it. But there are people who do appreciate these leaves. They used it as a medium of art in expressing their feelings. Take for example, the late, Levi Celerio. He was the first Filipino Artist who found notes in small leaves. He was able to use leaves as a medium to express his feelings through music. Another is the leaf art in Japan. I once saw a Japanese artist on TV who uses dried leaves to color his paintings. And unbelievably, his work of art was very astonishing! We may take these dusty leaves for granted but through other people, we may be able to realize the things that it can offer.

Pixel Perfect

Before, I wished to have a camera phone. But that was only a wish since it was so expensive when camera phones were first released in the market. And to take note that the cameras before were only VGA cameras. Good thing because months after, the 1.3 mega pixel was released. But still, I didn’t bought one because I knew something better is on its way. And as expected, the 2.0 mega pixel was released. When the 3.2 mega pixel was released, I thought it would be the end of the mega-pixel innovation, so I decided to bought one. But surprisingly, a month after I bought my 3.2 MP phone, the 5.0 MP camera phone was released. It only goes to show that cell phone companies ha always room for innovations.

Read Great Books

Reading was one of my hobbies when I was still studying. But I don’t mean, the textbooks. Though, I read them whenever I’m required to do so, but most of the time, I read pocket books. I remember, exchanging books, such as, Archie, Betty and Veronica and Nancy Drew with my classmates. But that was during my grade school days. As the years passed my choice for books also got mature. I read great books that are interesting yet useful because I realized that reading great books should not only entertain, but should also be a source of new information.

Child’s Request may Save Life

Children are gift from God. They are cute, cuddly, bubbly and most of all, they are very innocent. But despite their innocence, one should not ever under estimate a child’s capacity. Children as they are, they can save someone else’s life. And for that, we should not look them down. Just as what 2 Timothy, from the bible, says: “do not let other people look down on you because you’re young. Set the example in speech, love and in purity…”.
